This is one of the tapes made by J. Kuyateh with that band. He has 15 albums altogether issued between 1993 and 2012. He sings and plays the kora with a modern band with brass instruments, bass and drums. The style is reminiscent of Mory Kanté's. You can get some information about his career on Wikipedia.
The sound is perhaps a bit weak but there is a big energy in it.

ReplyDeleteyes I think so too but it's difficult to get some of his other tapes. Impossible from Discogs for example. Somebody brought it back for me from Africa.

Delete"NJAI-KUNDA IN PARIS" means that there was a concert in the house (lit. the compound) of a Njai-family in Paris. Njai is a common family name in Senegal and in the Gambia. So J. K. was probably flown to Paris for a marriage or a baptism. A.
