LE SARODE DE BRIJ NARAYAN

THE SAROD OF BRIJ NARAYAN
Magic of extraeuropean music India vol. 3
Disques Espérance, 1976, ESP 155 537
From this excellent series this is probably the first album recorded by B. Narayan in France under the aegis of the association ''the Friends of Asia''.
Born in 1952, Brij started to study Hindustani music with his father Ram and his uncle the tabla player Chatur Lal. Here is accompanied by Suresh Talwalkar who was first Ram Narayan's tabla player.
Side A presents the raag Shuddh Todi usually played at dawn while side B has the night raag Kaushi-Kanara. Kanara is a region in India and Kaushi would be a variant of raag Kanada with some characteristics of Malkauns.
Text in French only.

Thanks for you blog, it's excellent.
ReplyDeleteIt seems this one is not one but two different recordings, could you check it please?
thanks for your appreciation Edgar. Now I don't know what you mean by ''two different recordings''; do you think this LP was made out of two different sources ?
ReplyDeleteYes, there are 4 tracks (not two).
ReplyDeleteBeside the fact that the times of the titled tracks don't match with what's mentioned on the record label. See here:
https://www.discogs.com/release/4313691-Brij-Narayan-Le-Sarode-De-Brij-Narayan
Well I don't see the 4 tracks you are mentionning; clicking on the link leads you to the 2 tracks mentionned on discogs; the timing is different yes but that happens sometimes if the timing on the record is wrong. Tell me if I'm missing something
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough.
ReplyDeleteYour link "download.wav" goes to the 2 tracks indeed mentionned on discogs, but there is also another folder titled "brij narayan" that has 2 different tracks. My question is: are these from another record?
You were right : the other file you see is misplaced; it's another record by B. Narayan but I forgot to post it properly ! so thanks for your perspicacity; I'll do it now
ReplyDeleteI've already see it. Thanks for your attention and patience.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks again for your blog, it's great!
